BEAU TO GO BALD FOR THE CAUSE |
West Coast Eagles utility player Beau Waters, once known for his bold hairstyles, will go bald on Tuesday, February 10, to launch Cancer Council Western Australia’s Me No Hair fundraising campaign.
Not only will Beau have his head shaved, but he’s entrusting the delicate task to a seven-year-old! Young cancer survivor Chloe Cutts and Beau have become firm friends over the past few years as Chloe recovered from a rare form of bone cancer and she is looking forward to playing hairdresser to one of her football heroes.
Also getting in on the act will be teammate Daniel Kerr, who’ll go under the clippers for the second year in a row, and Brett Jones, who is looking forward to adding a bit of colour to his life.
Not to be outdone, young guns Ben McKinley, Will Schofield, Eric Mackenzie, Ryan Davis and Will Sullivan have also volunteered to have their hair coloured or clippered for the cause.
The Cancer Council’s Me No Hair encourages people to shave their heads or colour their hair to raise funds for vital cancer research, education and patient support services.
The event has raised almost $2 million dollars since it started in WA in 1999. The aim for 2009 is to raise $250,000.
Me No Hair runs all year so people can sign up any time to shave their heads or colour their hair. To register go to www.cancerwa.asn.au or call 1300 65 65 85.
The West Coast Eagles and the Cancer Council have joined forces in a special partnership to reduce the burden of cancer in the Western Australian community.
As part of the partnership the club hosts Dig Deep Day, which has so far raised more than $400,000 for the charity.
The club is also a big supporter of the Cancer Council’s key fundraising events such as Relay for Life and Me No Hair.
