More than half a million dollars raised for cancer |

Cancer Council Western Australia has congratulated everyone who took part in last weekend’s Relay for Life at Perry Lakes, which raised an amazing $485, 000!
The figure is expected to climb to more than $500,000 over the coming weeks.
Around 2,000 people, in teams of 10-15 members, took part in Relay for Life over the weekend – the event is held over 24 hours to remind us that cancer never sleeps.
Grand Champion fundraisers this year were ‘Reidy’s Relayers’ from Wesley College who raised an amazing $41,155.
Highest funds raised by a corporate team went to ‘Steel Magnolias’ who raised $18,145.
‘Cotton on to Cancer’ won the award for the highest funds raised by a community team with a huge contribution of $23,652.
Wesley College’s ‘Reidy’s Relayers’ also dominated on the track completing 890 laps over the 24 hours. In total, all of the teams from Wesley completed an amazing 13, 650 which is the equivalent of running from Perth to Broome and back - in a weekend!

“Relay for Life is more than just a fundraising event. It provides an opportunity for the community to come together to celebrate survival and the progress we have made in fighting cancer, as well as remembering those who have lost their life to cancer,” said Cancer Council CEO, Susan Rooney.
“It is also fantastic to see so many young people taking part in the event – they are the future of Relay and have huge role to play in the fight against cancer.
“Thank you to all of those volunteers, sponsors and team members who put in so much effort to make Relay for Life such a huge success,” Ms Rooney said.
