Residuary Bequest

The best way to ensure your bequest will retain its value over time is to leave a residuary bequest.

"I give to Cancer Council Western Australia Inc for its general purposes (or name specific purpose) all (or stated fraction) of the rest, residue and remainder of my estate whether real or personal and the receipt of the Executive Director of that Council will be sufficient discharge to my Executor/Trustee."

Unspecified

"I give to Cancer Council Western Australia Inc the sum of $ to be used for its general purposes and the receipt of the Executive Director of that Council will be sufficient discharge to my Executor/Trustee."

Specified

It is best if bequests are made unconditional. No one can say for certain what cancer research will be required in the future, or what the needs of people living with cancer may be. For example, if a bequest is left to a specified area of research, and that one type of cancer has been successfully treated, Cancer Council WA may not be able to benefit from the bequest.

While we will do everything in our power to honour your requests, if you wish to specify a particular use for your bequest we would greatly appreciate it being stated as a preference, not a condition. If you intend to name a specified purpose for your bequest we suggest that you, or your solicitor, confirm the wording with Cancer Council WA.

"I give to Cancer Council Western Australia Inc the sum of $ to be used for the purposes of (name specific purpose eg research, patient and supportive care services, cancer prevention programs) and the receipt of the Executive Director of that Council will be sufficient discharge to my Executor/Trustee".

Bequest to Trust to Life Beneficiary with remainder (or part thereof) to Cancer Council Western Australia Inc

This clause may be used to provide for family members during their lifetime and, at the same time, keep the estate intact for other general purposes thereafter.

"I give (insert amount of details) to my executor upon trust to pay the income there from to (name of beneficiary) during his or her lifetime and upon death of the said (name of beneficiary) to pay the capital to Cancer Council Western Australia Inc for its authorised purposes."
