2009 Cancer Research Symposium
'Advancing Cancer Research in WA'
Thursday 3 December 2009, Esplanade Hotel, Fremantle
The third Cancer Research Symposium - hosted by the Cancer Council Western Australia and the University of Western Australia Cancer and Palliative Care Research and Evaluation Unit (CaPCREU) - was held on Thursday 3rd December 2009 at the Esplanade Hotel, Fremantle.
This event aims to encourage local cancer researchers to share their findings with the local scientific and medical community. Over 140 delegates attended and 60 research papers from local cancer researchers were presented.
Keynote speakers included:
- Professor Sanchia Aranda, Professor Cancer Nursing Research, Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre
- Professor Barry Iacopetta, Director, Translational Cancer Research Laboratory, QEII Medical Centre (Surgery)
- Dr Vincent Cogliano, (pdf, 43kb) Head of the IARC Monographs program, International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC)
The program also featured a Panel Discussion entitled 'Research directions for 2010 and beyond' featuring a panel of other leading WA Cancer researchers.
