Dedicated Professorial Research ChairsThe Cancer Council WA funds three professorial positions at WA universities:

  • Chair in Palliative Care at Edith Cowan University which provides leadership in fostering excellence in research, teaching, professional activities and policy development within palliative care
  • Chair in Clinical Cancer Research at The University of Western Australia which supports the University in providing academic leadership in clinical cancer research in WA and aims to increase the participation of local cancer patients in clinical trials of new cancer treatments
  • Chair in Behavioural Research in Cancer Control at Curtin University which provides a broad base of social and behavioural knowledge relevant to cancer

Centre for Behavioural Research in Cancer Control

The Centre for Behavioural Research in Cancer Control (CBRCC) at Curtin University contributes to the knowledge on the many behavioural, environmental and structural determinants relevant to the prevention and early detection of cancer. There is particular emphasis on issues and conditions relevant to cancer control in Western Australia.


Cancer Council Clinical Trials WA

Cancer Council Clinical Trials WA has been established in partnership with the Western Australian Institute of Medical Research (WAIMR). Based at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, this program aims to encourage more participation in clinical trials and to contribute to leading edge cancer research.


The Bone Tumour Registry

The Bone Tumour Registry is a small research group that has been funded by the Cancer Council for many years. The Registry continues to document and assess clinical, radiological and pathological data on patients with primary bone tumours and tumour-like conditions. In 2006 the Registy published its data in the major international peer-reviewed journal Pathology.
