PhD Top Up Scholarships
The Cancer Council Western Australia PhD Top Up Scholarships offer additional financial support over three years to students with outstanding academic achievement and research potential to pursue full-time PhD studies in Western Australia in cancer-related research. Research projects can be in the fields of laboratory, clinical, epidemiological, psychosocial and/or behavioural science.

- Ms Jennifer Girschik, School of Public Health, The University of Western Australia (2011-2012)
Project Aim: this research aims to investigate sleep quality as a possible risk factor for developing breast cancer.

Project Aim: the aim of this project is to increase the quality and accessibility of radiotherapy technology

Project Aim: this project aims to look into ways of improving the quality of life of cancer survivors. - Mr Adam Passman, The University of Western Australia (2012-2013)
Project Aim: the aim of this project is to understand the mechanisms which transform liver progenitor cells into cancerous cells and whether these apply to human hepatocellular carcinoma

Honours Scholarships
New to 2012 the Cancer Council WA Honours Scholarships have been established to specifically support the work of promising young Honour Students with an interest in cancer research.
The Scholarships are offered to students with an outstanding track record in academic achievement and research potential to pursue full-time Honours studies in Western Australia in cancer-related research. Research projects can be in the fields of laboratory, clinical, epidemiological, psycho-social and/or behavioural science.

Project Aim: The aim of this project is to understand more about the mechanisms of miR-193 in the development of malignant mesothelioma and assess its potential as a diagnostic tool

Project Aim: The aim of this project is to help optimise treatment for patients with prostate cancer and to ensure better outcomes.
