This one day workshop is informed by the growing research into the benefits of the intentional development of compassion as part of health professional education. The deliberate and systematic cultivation of compassion in health care professionals has a protective effect for the professional and is of benefit in the care of patients.Compassion empowers and develops resilience in the face of suffering

  • Review of the scientific research into compassion and the cultivation of compassion
  • Identifying obstacles to compassion and ways to respond to the obstacles
  • Guided instruction in compassion meditation practices
  • The role of self-compassion in self-care and guided instruction in self-compassion practices
  • A compassion-based response to secondary trauma and compassion fatigue
  • Compassionate care for patients, their caregivers and their family
