Relay For Life events to go ahead as planned

The weekend of 11 & 12 January saw devastating bushfires in the Perth hills region.

We are very saddened to hear of the 55 families who lost their homes in this tragedy and we extend our deepest sympathy to the family and friends of the man who died trying to save his property from the fires.

As some of you may be aware, a bushfire came within metres of Cancer Council's Milroy Lodge in Shenton Park.

Fortunately all guests were evacuated, no one was hurt, and fire fighters were able to extinguish the fire.

However during the early hours of Sunday, two sheds housing all of our Relay For Life equipment, merchandise, and a number of precious memories were burnt and destroyed.

This is especially sad for a number of volunteers who spent many hours in the construction, improvement and organisation of the sheds.

Fortunately the sheds are covered by insurance, and over the past few days we have been gathering an inventory list from all stakeholders.

We want to assure Relayers that all events will go ahead this year and we are very appreciative of the messages of support we have received.

The Relay Spirit is truly wonderful, we will rebuild and make Relay even better!

We’ve received numerous offers of good and services from generous people across the state.

Anyone who would like to donate can call our fundraising hotline on 1300 65 65 85.
