Brooke running in memory of her dad

Beechboro resident Brooke Beardman is running in memory of her dad for this year's HBF Run for a Reason.

The 31-year-old social worker tragically lost her father to cancer last year, when he passed away after only two weeks of finding out his diagnosis.

"It happened really quickly," she said.

"He had a few aches and pains that he attributed to getting older. He had a few blood tests and was admitted to hospital.

"It turns out he had had cancer for a few years but never had any obvious symptoms. It was through his whole body and it got into his bones."

Brooke was keen to do whatever she could to raise awareness and funds for Cancer Council WA.

At time of writing, Brooke is one of Cancer Council WA's highest HBF Run for a Reason fundraisers and is looking forward to running the 12km course on Sunday, 22 May.

"I go to the gym regularly and have stayed fit, but I don't do a lot of running so I've had to start training."

"I'm stubborn so I know I'll finish, and I'm hoping to do it in around 90 minutes."
