Dry July 2016 has come to a close

Posted 2 Aug 2016.

Congratulations to everyone who took part in Dry July this year to raise much-needed funds for Cancer Council WA.  The money you raised will go towards improving our accommodation lodges so we can continue to provide a comfortable home-away-from-home for WA's country cancer patients and their carers while they access treatment in Perth.

Special mention to the generous people below who took part in Dry July this year and named us as their beneficiary:

  • Our wonderful lodge staff who formed the 'Zombies' Dry July team and gave up both booze AND their daily cuppa, raising a wonderful $7,161.24
  • Clayton Mitchell, who inspired by his dad raised an incredible $2,065.68
  • 6PR's Lisa Barnes, our 2016 Dry July Ambassador who raised $802.50
  • 720 Perth's Jane Marwick, our 2016 Dry July Ambassador who raised $1,533.28

In the past, proceeds from Dry July have helped us to:
  • Conduct kitchen renovations at Crawford Lodge
  • Build a shade covered walkway at Crawford Lodge
  • Build a theatre room at Crawford Lodge
  • Replace mattresses at Milroy Lodge
  • Install ceiling fans at Crawford and Milroy Lodge
  • Introduce WiFi and Skype at Crawford Lodge
  • Introduce a transport to treatment service for Peel and Rockingham patients
However, the benefits of taking on Dry July don't end with supporting those affected by cancer - by going booze free and making even small improvements to your diet and exercise routine, you can expect to experience any of the following:
  • Increased energy levels and higher productivity
  • A clearer head
  • No more hangovers
  • Sleeping better and / or snoring less
  • Weight loss
  • Clearer skin
  • A healther bank balance / saving money
  • A sense of achievement
  • A fresh approach to alcohol consumption
  • Generally feeling healthier

Take a listen to our Education & Research Director, Terry Slevin chatting about the benefits of getting involved with Dry July with our 2016 Ambassadors, Lisa Barnes from 6PR and Jane Marwick from 720 Perth.

You can continue to donate to our wonderful Dry July supporters until the end of August.
