National Volunteer Week (NVW) which runs from the 8th-14th of May this year, is an annual celebration to acknowledge the generous contribution of our nation's volunteers. In the 15/16 financial year 1960 volunteers contributed 84,527 hours across all areas of our work. We simply couldn’t do what we do without them. To celebrate our incredible volunteers and the huge role they play in helping us continue to support West Aussies affected by cancer we will be introducing you to some of our amazing volunteers throughout this week.
Peter is one of our delightful Transport to Treatment Volunteer drivers. Every Tuesday, Peter generously offers up his time to drive our Milroy and Crawford Lodge Guests to their various treatment appointments around the city.
“Sometimes the Lodge Guests are surprised that we offer a free transport service and they’re very grateful for it. I enjoy the driving as it’s nice to be able to meet people from the country and have a good conversation. It’s great to get involved and be able to help someone where I can.”
Transport to Treatment services are driven entirely by passionate volunteers. We wouldn’t be able to offer this wonderful service to our community without them. Thank you Peter, we couldn’t be more appreciative of your kindness, compassion and willingness to support those fighting cancer, when they need it the most.
