Minister for Health, Roger Cook, joined us at the opening of our $2 million Lodge extension project for WA country cancer patients today.
At the moment close to 5,000 people from around WA are accommodated every year at our Milroy and Crawford Lodges in Perth.
Our CEO, Ashley Reid, said the $2 million refurbishment means an additional 300 country cancer patients can be accommodated in Perth each year.
"The lodges are invaluable for country patients who need to temporarily relocate to Perth for cancer treatment," he said.
The refurbishments have created a total of nine new guest rooms (at both sites), including construction of a family unit at Crawford Lodge and additional kitchen and laundry facilities at Crawford Lodge.
Mr Reid acknowledged the generous support of Lotterywest, Dry July fundraisers and other private donations who have all contributed towards the cost of the refurbishment.
"Not only do they save our guests the stress and cost of finding other accommodation in Perth, the support on offer at the Lodges can make an enormous difference to country cancer patients at a difficult time in their lives."
