In the lead up to the 2017 State Election, we asked you to help us petition our next State Government to make cancer a priority. Whether by restricting the availability of tobacco, installing UV meters in our schools, or increasing funding for vital research, our state representatives have the power to make changes that will have a significant impact towards achieving better health outcomes for our community.
Over 4,000 people joined us in uniting against cancer and the good news is, we were heard. Both major parties agreed to elements of a number of priorities.
Before the election, the Labor party whom then went on to win government announced they would in part support maintained investment in cancer prevention programs, investigate tougher tobacco licensing provisions, increase investment in local cancer research, and invest in the distribution of the Find Cancer Early campaign for those in regional WA – however none of these announcements came with specific dollar figures and in some instances details remain unclear. You can read more about what’s been promised here.
These partial promises were a good start, but there's still more to be done.
Over the coming weeks, months and years, we’ll continue to fight for better cancer health policies and cancer outcomes so that in the future, no family loses a loved one to this devastating disease.
By signing our petition you have helped us in our mission to bring the defeat of cancer closer. Thank you.
