How you can continue fundraising from home

While we're all social distancing, you might find yourself looking for ways to fight off the cabin fever. One way to do so is by setting yourself a fundraising challenge to help stay healthy and motivated at home, while raising vital funds for people affected by cancer, who are especially at risk due to COVID-19. Join our Do It For Cancer challenge.

Unfortunately, we've had to drastically modify or cancel many of our major fundraising events, including Do It For Cancer, which is significantly impacting our cancer community, who need our support now more than ever.

Despite what else is happening in the world, every day another 33 West Australians will hear the words "you have cancer."

So please, continue supporting those impacted by cancer by taking part in our Do It For Cancer challenge this year and raising funds to help ensure critical cancer support services such as counselling, financial assistance and transport to treatment, can continue.

Here are five fun ways you can help from home:

1. Change up your hair

Change up your hair

Have you got the quarantine bangs itch? Cut, shave or colour your hair or beard and ask people to donate to see the outcome. Make a hairy sacrifice.

2. Give up your gifts

Give up your gifts

Have you had to cancel your birthday party this year? Set up a birthday fundraiser and ask your friends and family to give a donation instead of gifts. Give up your gifts.

3. Do something active

Do something active

Swap out the trackies for some running shorts and get fitter for a cancer free future. Set yourself or your team a fitness challenge such as doing 10,000 steps a day or more, a squat or burpee challenge, or running a half marathon in your backyard, local park or living room. Start your challenge today.

4. Serenade someone

Serenade someone

Do your friends compare your voice to Michael Bublé? Why not put that angelic voice to good use by putting on a show online for a small admission fee. Alternatively, get everyone involved by holding a karaoke night and live streaming it. Host your virtual event.

5. Give something up

Give something up

Give up caffeine, sugar, Netflix, animal products, online shopping, UberEATS, or social media for a month. Ask people to sponsor you for every day you go without. Join the challenge now.

Still need some more inspiration...

  • Get crafty: Are you into arts and crafts such as knitting, origami, mosaic, or macramé? Sell your wares online and donate the proceeds.
  • Sell your plant babies: Do you have a green thumb? Propagate some plants and sell them to raise funds for us.
  • Share your artistic abilities: Hold an online art class and ask participants to make a small donation to join.

If you can, please continue supporting those impacted by cancer by joining our Do It For Cancer challenge or making a donation.
