Update to our cancer services and programs

We understand there has been some uncertainty caused by the COVID-19 pandemic over the last few months; however, thanks to you, we have continued providing vital services and programs to West Australians impacted by cancer during this time. We're so incredibly grateful for the commitment of our donors and supporters to help during this difficult time.

With the recent easing of restrictions by the WA Government, we're delighted to provide the following updates on our active services and programs, effective 29 June 2020.

Regional WA Services

Cancer Council WA provides a range of practical and emotional support, professional services and information in various regional areas in Western Australia.

You can now make an appointment to see a Regional Cancer Support Coordinator in-person at one of our regional centres, which have re-opened to visitors with physical distancing and hand hygiene measures in place. However, if you'd prefer, they can also assist you through telephone or video consults.

Our Regional Cancer Support Coordinators provide information, offer emotional support and can connect anyone affected by cancer to local services and support groups in their local area. Some Regional centres offer Complementary Therapy, Regional Transport to Treatment and Regional Wig Services.

For more information, please contact a Cancer Support Coordinator via our contact us page.

Accommodation Services

Our Crawford and Milroy Lodges provide a home-away-from-home for regional cancer patients and their carers. We've recently introduced the following changes to our Lodges:

  • Our lodge guest exercise program has resumed.
  • Previous restrictions on non-essential visitors have now been lifted.
  • Transport to Treatment is operating again thanks to our wonderful volunteers but will be running at a reduced capacity.
  • Our theatre room has re-opened, which means movie nights will be starting up again.

For more information, please contact a Cancer Support Coordinator via our contact us page.

Life Now Online Courses

Our Life Now Program offers free mind and body courses for cancer patients and their carers. The program is currently offering free online courses in July and August for Yoga and Meditation.

Find out more information or apply for the courses.

Cancer Counselling Services

Our Cancer Counselling Service offers free emotional support aimed at reducing anxiety and improving coping skills. We're now providing in-person counselling sessions, with the option to do telephone sessions if clients prefer.

Practical Support Program

Our Practical Support Program offers light domestic cleaning and gardening, and in-home childcare services. Cancer patients are encouraged to discuss eligibility for referral to the support service from their health professional or Cancer Support Coordinator.

Wig Service

Our Wig Service can help with any headwear requirements via the Products by Post service. Visit the Wig Service page or call 13 11 20 for more information about which services are currently available; or to order headwear, please fill out the Wig Service Product Request Form.
