Popular Roleystone bakery, Honey's Bakehouse, will donate their entire day's takings on Saturday 28 August to raise money for Cancer Council WA's 2021 Daffodil Day Appeal.
Owner Brent Honey said it was the fifth time they had been involved in the fundraising event.
"My mum Helen received support through Cancer Council WA when she was going through cancer treatment and spoke highly of the support she received, so this is our way of giving back," Mr Honey said.
"The community has been amazing; since we started in 2016 we have raised more than $20,000 and this year we hope to beat last year's total of $7000.
"Our motto this year is ‘buy anything and we will donate everything' so we urge everyone in the community to come down between 7.30am - 3.00pm to support this great cause."
Our Midland Regional Education Officer, Alycia Simmonds, said that with less funding available for research due to the current climate, it's more important than ever to ensure we support the work of our cancer researchers.
"An estimated 13,000 West Australians are diagnosed with cancer every year," Ms Simmonds.
"This means every day another 36 West Aussies will hear the words "you have cancer".
"Despite advances made in research and improving survival rates for many cancers, we know that one in two Australians will be diagnosed by the age of 85.
"Thanks to investment in research over many years, amazing advancements have been made in cancer prevention, screening and treatment - helping to increase survival rates from 49 per cent in the 1980s to 69 per cent today.
"By supporting the Daffodil Day Appeal, you will help us invest in cutting-edge, life-saving research to give Australians hope for a cancer free future."
This year, Daffodil Day celebrates 35 years of turning Australia yellow, with Cancer Council aiming to raise more than $2 million for cancer research through online donations and fundraising.
The Daffodil Day Appeal will take place throughout August, culminating on Daffodil Day on Friday 27 August 2021.
Support our Daffodil Day Appeal by making a donation online. Every dollar helps fund life-saving cancer research to give West Australians the best chance of surviving cancer.
