As you may know, the Australian Government’s Department of Health has developed Australia’s COVID-19 Vaccine National Rollout Strategy that outlines when individuals will receive the vaccination. All persons with specified underlying medical conditions* can now book in for their COVID-19 vaccination by going to the Roll Up For WA website or by calling 13 26843 between 8am and 6pm, seven days a week. Carers (paid or unpaid) of an adult or child with a specified medical condition are also eligible.
- *Haematological diseases or cancers: Including leukaemia, lymphoma or myeloma resulting in immunocompromise.
- *Non-haematological cancer: Diagnosed within the past 5 years or on chemotherapy, radiotherapy, immunotherapy or targeted anti-cancer therapy (active treatment or recently completed) or with advanced disease regardless of treatment.
If you are concerned or if you have questions about the vaccine you should talk to your doctor or treatment team to receive the best advice for your personal situation.
We recommend you read through Cancer Australia’s FAQs which address many common questions and concerns you may have about the COVID-19 vaccination for cancer patients.
Cancer Council WA is working with experts in the healthcare sector and the WA Department of Health to understand the recommendations and process for cancer patients in WA and will provide more information when it is available.
Please keep an eye on our website over the coming weeks for more information specific to people undergoing treatment for cancer and in the meantime, if you’d like to speak with someone for cancer information and support, please contact our cancer nurses on 13 11 20.
