Salary packaging

Employee Assistance Program

As part of our commitment to our staff’s wellbeing, Cancer Council WA has an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) that is available to all staff.

The aim of EAP is to provide preventive and proactive interventions for the early detection, identification and/or resolution of both work and personal problems that may adversely affect performance and wellbeing.

Leave benefits

Cancer support leave – to provide support for employees impacted by cancer, either through their own diagnosis and treatment or in the provision of primary care to an immediate family member.

Family and domestic violence leave – available should you find yourself in situation where you need to deal with the impact of family violence.

End of trip facilities

Supporting staff who wish to ride to work or fit some exercise into their working day is important. Most of our offices have shower facilities available and secure on-site bicycle storage.

SunSmart protection

Cancer Council WA is committed to providing a safe environment for staff, this includes in protection from the known harm from UV. All Cancer Council WA locations are stocked with sunscreen and all employees are provided their own bucket hat to protect your skin from the harmful UV rays when heading out of the office.

Volunteering towards our cause

All employees are encouraged to volunteer by taking time out of their normal roles to support Cancer Council WA fundraising activities. It is a wonderful opportunity for employees to represent Cancer Council and feel connected to our vital work within the community.

Preparing your application

To prepare for submitting your application, you will need to have:

  • a current copy of your CV
  • a covering letter summarising your reasons for applying.

Both documents should be saved either in Word or PDF format so they can be uploaded when you complete your application online.

Applying for a role

All current vacancies are advertised through our website and via SEEK. Please double check your personal details and contact information are up-to-date and that your latest CV and cover letter are submitted.

When will I hear back about my application?

The time between each stage of our recruitment and selection process varies depending on the number of applicants. We appreciate your patience during this time.

Due to the large number of applications we receive, we don’t always have the ability to speak to all candidates. Please know that we work hard on getting back to you in a timely manner, via phone or email.

We may contact you to over the phone initially to discuss your application in further detail. If you are then shortlisted, you will be invited to an interview. If you have not been shortlisted, you will receive an e-mail notification at the end of our recruitment process to advise that your application has been unsuccessful on this occasion.

We would encourage you to monitor your ‘junk’ emails during this time in case our emails are caught by your spam filter, as you may miss an important update regarding your application.

Attending an interview

If you are invited to attend an interview, the People and Culture team at Cancer Council WA will be in touch with you over the phone to arrange a suitable time and date.  Typically interviews take place face-to-face in one of our offices, however sometimes they may be conducted via video-conference where necessary.

As with each step of the recruitment process, if you have any accessibility requirements or require adjustments to perform to your full potential, we are happy to accommodate where possible.

Reference checks

Reference checks will take place prior to a formal offer of employment being made.  When requested, you will be required to provide contact information for two professional referees, preferably a current or recent former employer/ manager. We will not contact your referees without your prior permission.

National Police Check

Depending on the nature of the position you have applied for; you may be required to undertake a National Police Check as part of the recruitment process. You will be notified if this is applicable to the role you have applied for.

Working with Children Check

Depending on the nature of the position you have applied for, you may be required to undertake a Working with Children check as part of the recruitment process.  Checks will be conducted in accordance with current legislation and you will be provided with further information in relation to this where applicable.

Overseas applicants

All applicants must have the existing right to live and work in Australia. Cancer Council WA cannot accept applicants from overseas without valid working rights, unless expressly specified. Working holiday visas will not be considered.

Confidentiality will be maintained throughout the recruitment process and information held will be in accordance with our Privacy Collection Statement.

Information for recruitment agencies

Cancer Council WA does not accept unsolicited resumes from third parties. Cancer Council WA will not recognise an entitlement to an introduction or placement fee unless the Agency has been briefed by the People and Culture team on a specific position for which we have requested candidates.
